Text message (SMS) consent

1. Who sends these messages
Vantage is a business management platform used by construction contractors in Quebec, Canada. When a contractor uses Vantage, the platform may send text messages on their behalf to their own clients and employees. Every message begins with the contractor's business name, so the recipient immediately knows who is contacting them.
2. What messages are sent
Transactional messages only, tied to an active job or file. No marketing or promotional messages are ever sent through this channel.
To the contractor's clients:
- Appointment confirmation
- Reminder for an upcoming appointment
- Notice that a quote is available, with a link to review it
- Reminder that a quote is awaiting approval
To the contractor's employees:
- Work order assignment notice
3. How consent is obtained
Consent is verbal or written, given directly by the person to the contractor they are doing business with — over the phone, in person during a site visit, or in writing. The contractor then records that consent in Vantage by checking a box on the person's profile.
The box is unchecked by default and cannot be enabled without a phone number. This is the exact wording shown in the application, on a client's profile (the application is in French, the working language of our market):
☐ Ce client accepte de recevoir des SMS
Confirmations de rendez-vous, soumissions et rappels. Requis par la LCAP : ne cochez que si le client vous l'a autorisé verbalement ou par écrit. Il peut se désabonner en tout temps en répondant STOP.
English: “This client agrees to receive text messages — Appointment confirmations, quotes and reminders. Required under CASL: only check this if the client has given you permission verbally or in writing. They can unsubscribe at any time by replying STOP.”
And on an employee's profile:
☐ Cet employé accepte de recevoir des SMS
Avis d'assignation de bon de travail. Il peut se désabonner en tout temps en répondant STOP.
English: “This employee agrees to receive text messages — Work order assignment notices. They can unsubscribe at any time by replying STOP.”
The date and time of consent are recorded automatically. Until the box is checked, the platform blocks the send at the application level. This is not a policy reminder — it is a check enforced before every message, and every blocked attempt is logged.
Verbal consent script
This is the script the contractor uses to obtain permission, over the phone or in person. It is provided to all our users and reproduced in the platform's user guide. The script is spoken in French; the English translation follows.
« Est-ce que vous acceptez que [nom de l'entreprise] vous envoie des messages texte au sujet de votre dossier — confirmations de rendez-vous, rappels et soumissions? La fréquence dépend de l'avancement de vos travaux. Des frais de messagerie et de données peuvent s'appliquer selon votre forfait mobile. Vous pouvez vous désabonner en tout temps en répondant STOP. Nos conditions et notre politique de confidentialité sont au vantagesuite.ca. »
English: “Do you agree to receive text messages from [business name] about your project — appointment confirmations, reminders and quotes? Message frequency varies with the progress of your work. Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile plan. You can unsubscribe at any time by replying STOP. Our terms and privacy policy are available at vantagesuite.ca.”
The contractor checks the box only after an affirmative answer. The same script applies to employees, replacing the description of the messages with work order assignment notices.

5. How to opt out
Reply STOP to any message. Opting out is immediate and free. It is handled at two levels: by the mobile carrier, and by our own systems, which revoke the stored consent right away. No further messages will be sent.
You may also ask the contractor to uncheck the box on your profile, or email support@vantagesuite.ca.
For help, reply HELP or contact us at the same address.
6. Frequency and rates
Message frequency varies with your file: these messages are triggered by real events (an appointment being booked, a quote being sent), not by a sending schedule. Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile plan.
7. Your information
Phone numbers are used solely to deliver these notifications. They are never sold, rented, or shared for marketing purposes. See our privacy policy and terms of service.
